Celebration of Learning and Talent

This month began with a bash and is continuing to be so much fun for all of us in Grade-3. Beginning with preparing for the 'Bazaars of Hyderabad' and to witness it coming into reality in both the classrooms was marvelous. The buzzing streets of the 'Bazaars of Hyderabad' was much appreciated by all the spectators and visitors. It was a formative assessment for the students of Grade-3 and students from Grade-9 were the assessors. Each and every individual who came to the bazaars were appreciative of the hard work our students have invested in these markets, may it be their research finding or their presentations. Right from the students in Grade-1 to Grade 9, adults including teachers both from Junior and Senior schools, parents, Ms. Latha and Ms. Chloe were all in awe.

In Maths, we continue to practice and solve addition and subtraction problems. The strategy of rounding was introduced last week. Students enjoyed this in a fun-way as we had this session outdoors. The concept of multiplication was introduced this week. Students had an opportunity to explore this concept and the different strategies relevant to it. As a provocation, we began with reading aloud a book called ‘Six Dinners Sid’ which is connected to the concept of multiplication. Strategies such as skip counting, repeated addition, arrays, grouping. Mr. Karim, our Maths expert came to visit our session during this lesson.

In English, Ms. Robin is helping us as usual for reading and writing sessions. During her session last week, she read aloud a book called 'Fortunately, Unfortunately' followed by a writing task which we continue during the week. This week she brought up a task related to similar-sounding vocabulary- 'Bazaar' and 'Bizarre'. She helped the students in exploring their meaning through pictures. They also explored more synonyms for the word-bizarre. This was also followed by a writing task which students are encouraged to complete during this week before her next session. The writing tasks are connected with 6+1 traits of writing and we are focussing on ideas and building vocabulary. Thank you, Ms. Robin.

This week we also began with our new unit on 'Child's Rights' connected with the theme of 'Who We Are'. Students created an imaginary character and certain situations relevant to the Child's rights in India were provided for them to reflect upon. Students were keen to know about the unit and actively participated in their pre-unit assessment.
