Another Exciting Week
This week we started with tuning into our unit with the help
of a few artefacts during ‘Circle Time’. Students came up with some insightful
sharing about their understanding after observing the artefacts. They made some
prominent connections with their own lives and were able to express it
confidently. This was done in order to understand how living things and
non-living things are dependent on each other.
Students also unpacked the central idea of the unit with the
help of jumbled words and formed a statement using them. They also identified
the transdisciplinary theme our unit falls under which is ‘Sharing the Planet’.
In Maths, students played different games outdoors called and learnt the concept of the place value of numbers. Students were assigned with numbers and were guided with two,
three and four-digit numbers to form a human graph. They also played in centres
during the week in order to understand the different concepts under the strand ‘Numbers’. Students did skip counting, ordering, number bonds using varied manipulatives and representation of numbers through Dienes blocks commonly known as base ten
blocks.
An activity on place value of numbers was also assigned to them on the seesaw app. Students also used iPads to research on the keywords of the central idea during the week.
Students looked for themes and their descriptors to enhance their understanding of the central idea and to make connections with it.
We started with descriptive writing with a small activity on the seesaw app. Students were asked to select an artefact of their choice and write about it. For their reference, some guiding questions were provided to them. Ms Robin continues to take a reading session for us every week. This time she read a book on one of the famous Australian animals called ‘Possum’. They were other Australian animals in the book and students were really keen while listening to the story.
Play and it's benefits. Let us listen to it from the students!
