Last week of August

This week we have further inquired into the unit of inquiry focusing on ‘Ecosystems’ by responding to the ‘Teacher Questions’. We also observed a fruit and developed the skill of formulating questions using the thinking tool – 6 W’s and 1 H.

It was fascinating to see how students came up with different questions based on an artefact. Later the questions were sorted with the chosen category by the students.

Students were given a choice to pick any picture or a word card for 'Descriptive writing'.

In English, we started reading the Oxford Reading Tree books in the class according to their guided reading levels followed by activities such as ‘Summarizing the book’, ‘Buddy Reading within the class’ and Reading aloud to teachers and peers’. We also had two sessions with Ms Robin this week which begins with reading aloud by the teacher followed by interesting activities.

We had a collaborative session on preparing a questionnaire for the students’ parents and grandparents. They created a questionnaire based on the kind of questions they would like to discuss with them. Some of the topics that they came up with were astounding for us.

‘House of Numbers’- To gain a deeper understanding of the place value of numbers we did an activity called the house of numbers. Also during playtime (one of the last lessons), we played different games related to numbers. Thanks to Ms Nivedita who helped us during this session. A couple of fun activities were set for them on the seesaw app to have some hands-on practise for place value.

We had 'Buddy Reading' as our JS enrichment activity. Grade 3 students were paired with Grade 5 students.

Students are also coming up with their research on the questions for the day and sometimes they have their personal inquiries which they share with the class. The research work is later added to the action board.
