September Brought More Fun!!

We started this week by visiting the area on the campus where we will begin with our class’ organic patch. Mr Venkat (senior school teacher) helped us to understand the different plants we could grow there. He also made us aware of the varied factors which are involved in order to have a smooth beginning and functioning of the organic patch. He provided us with a piece of land where we will have our own organic patch where students will get hands-on experience of growing different crops. This is basically done to enhance their understanding of the interdependence of biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystems.

In Maths, we had different activities in centres based on ‘Place Value of Numbers’. Students were given an opportunity to explore different concepts such as the expansion of numbers, representation of numbers using drawing as a medium (Base 10 blocks), writing the numbers in word form, face value and place value of numbers. They also challenged themselves to do the hundred thousand place value of numbers in one of the centres.

On Wednesday, we went to the GMR’s organic farm to get an idea of how we shall begin with our organic patch on the campus. The students got an insight into how much time do the crops take in order to grow. They also identified the materials we would require to begin with the organic patch. This was followed by an intense reflection with their buddies to mention about the investigations they did before and during the field trip, planning required to start with the organic patch and the action they will take in order to have success in this project.

We also played a card game outdoors related to place value called ‘ I have… who has’. Thereafter, students were given some time to have free play in order to develop their self-management and gross motor skills.

Some of the reflections from students at the end of the day

On the day of ‘Teacher’s Day,’ we had a special assembly for the teachers and the whole school came together in the morning. It was inundating to see how much our students love us for they planned for little surprises in the class. They showered their love by gifting hand-made cards to me. They also gave me hugs throughout the day. I guess this is the best reward we receive as teachers- the unconditional love from our students!! J

During the week, we had whole grade sessions on the interview questionnaire that they conducted last weekend. It was good to observe the students were really excited to share the experiences and responses that they gathered from their family members. I would like to thank all the family members who participated in the interview and were a part of their child's learning. Kindly continue and participate as it enhances their learning.
