September-Week-3

Monday this week began with the assembly on launching the ‘Peace Week’. As we have the International Day of Peace on 21st of September, Ms Latha, Ms Nivedita and I came up with some activities for the whole school- grade-wise and shared them with everyone through the assembly. Student council members helped us to introduce these activities to all.

In ICT, students learned to create a timeline on an app called ‘Popplet lite’. They created their own life’s timeline initially. Later, the next day, they used the same app for their research on Heritage to create a timeline on ‘Rulers of Hyderabad’. The other centres were as follows:
Identify shapes and patterns from the resource books provided and draw them in their books.
Research on the dressing style of people to compare and contrast east from west.

Interview one of the members in your group about their food habits and make connections with the research on the cuisine of Hyderabad and upload it on the seesaw app.

Students presented their research on components of ecosystems during the week. They chose a medium on their own to present their understanding and used varied tools. For example booklet, chart presentation, powerpoint presentation and so on.

Ms Robin read a book to us on Wednesday followed by asking questions to us about our feelings and mood swings. We tried to address the issue of no bullying as we were focussing on peace this week.

Action for the peace week and for our year-long unit on Ecosystems. Grade 3 students will have their own organic farm patch to grow some plants and take care of them.

Researching on strategies to solve problems related to addition and subtraction.

Using guided reading books in order to identify the describing words(adjectives) and create their own sentences out of those words.

Exploring newspapers in different languages to identify the similarities in order to find out the elements of a newspaper or a news report.

Practice for assembly presentation on the action taken during the 'Peace Week'.

For counting and addition, students counted each other's hair strands and shared the total number of hair strands counted by each individual.

Since we celebrated the International Day of Peace on Friday, I read them a book on how we can make others and ourselves happy. The book with the title 'Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud and David Messing. Students made a lot of connections with this book which was fascinating to observe. Our Friday enrichment activities were also related to the same theme and we did reading aloud session by the students in my centre.

Parenting session on Saturday

It was a full-fledged six days week with lots of fun and learning for all of us :)
