Last Week

Last week of the first half of the term was a short one as we had ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ on 2nd October. A couple of students in the class were left with their presentations on the ecosystem’s research which was completed. Also, the students who selected to do a diorama for their formative assessment-1 on Ecosystems uploaded their understanding on the seesaw app through pictures and recordings.

In Maths, we practiced subtraction through playing games outdoors using dices. A three-digit number was created using three dices, post which students took turns to throw one or two dices depending on their choice to subtract that number from the answer. For example, the number created was 365, the next student threw two dices creating number 24 that was to be subtracted from 365. The answer is 341, then the next student got 31 as a number so the answer would be 310 and so on. It was interesting to see how students used mental maths strategies to subtract numbers.

In English, we continued to do some report writing through field trip reflection. Firstly, we discussed the elements of a news report using some examples from the internet. Thereafter, students were provided with the ticket of Salar Jung Museum and they then created a news report of their field trip. We also read a book called ‘The Boy Without a Name’. It is a dual language book – in English and Spanish. It was interesting to see that the students could identify the latter language. Different perspectives and concepts came out through the discussions while reading the book. Though, the major focus was on the ‘AK Strand-Culture’.

Students also had an assessment of 'Place Value of Numbers'.

Our organic patch in the school campus has been flourishing because of the hard work and determination of our students who have been vigilant in taking care of the same. Students of Grade 3 adding manure/fertilizer (natural) from the compost collected and created by Grade 4 students. We are grateful to the gardeners and Grade 4 students who are helping us in making this project/action a successful one.

During the students’ assembly on 4th October, we(students of Grade-2 and teachers) gave a surprise to Ms. Latha for her birthday celebration. On Friday, the enrichment activity focus was on ‘Festivals’. Students were allowed to choose a festival of their choice amongst ten of them. They then went to the designated venues and celebrated different festivals like Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Durga Puja, Rath Yatra, Onam, Ganesh Chaturti, Raksha Bandhan and so on. I hope students are enjoying their holidays as much as they have fun in school.
