October ends- November begins

Though it was a short week after Diwali we had loads of fun and learning. In Maths learning centers, students had the opportunity to recall and compute problems related to addition and subtraction using tic-tac-toe games. Some of them used manipulatives like counters to solve problems while others used whiteboards and markers and some of them chose to use mental strategies.

In the library lesson, Ms. Veena assigned an interesting task to students. They were asked to inquire about the following:  1. How are the libraries different from one another around the world? 2. When and where was the first library in the Aga Khan Academy and how has it changed over the years? 3. How will we preserve our library's books and resources for us to make it our heritage in the school?
Students were expected to research and interview some people in the school who have been there since the inception of the school.

Ms. Idah, an expert in Lego was in our school for two weeks for the professional development for teachers on play-based learning. Upon request, she accepted to come and take a session on Maths concepts using Lego in our classroom. Students were excited and participated actively in the learning engagements (some of which were really challenging, ask them). Thank you Ms. Idah for the fun-learning session.

Outdoor Play included creating music with reuse and recycle material along with other fun games.

For our reading sessions- guided and reading aloud, our focus this week was 'Making Predictions'. It is one of the reading strategies which develops thinking skills. Students enjoyed reading and questioning their friends to predict from the text. Skills fostered were- reading, questioning and predicting.

Chapter 2 of the book 'Charlotte's Web' is completed and now students will predict what will happen in the third chapter? Who is going to escape? Will he or she succeed?
Students assessed each others' Maths tasks completed in the centers and reflected what they learned from 'peer-assessment'.

In ICT,  Ms. Mita integrated the learning objectives of the unit on Heritage and connected it to using One Note. Students were guided to work in groups on their chosen topic.

This week, students also completed one of their formative assessments on the Heritage unit. Ms. Robin's session also focussed on the Heritage and the stories related to it. She brought some artifacts and books to share the stories behind those articles. It was interesting to see how each possession of a person has a short story behind it. Students were keen for her session as always and could make connections with their unit's learnings.
