Action-Packed Unit of Inquiry
After researching thoroughly on Child's rights in India and Children's rights by the UN (United Nations), students suggested their ideas for ensuring awareness on each right. The actions suggested include creating resources for a government school's students, forming a debate club, creating a mini-wellness center during break and lunchtime and more. Grade 3 students of both A and K sections are collaborating for this project.
During the guided reading sessions, students focused on identifying adjectives and tried to use them. They also began to find the meaning of the words that are new to them and add them to the word wall. Ms. Latha is helping us during this time. She helps one group at a time for their read-aloud sessions. Thank you, Ms. Latha!
Some students took an initiative to present their understanding of Child's Rights in India using MS powerpoint and paper presentations.
Ms. Robin's sessions included an amalgamation of Children's rights with a brand of shoes called Skechers. When she shared with me that this brand helps children who are deprived of footwear. With each pair they sell, they donate a pair to someone who needs shoes. We came up with an idea to align this with our current unit on Child's rights. She designed a lesson beautifully around the brand and her new pair of shoes. The follow-up activities suggested by her were to create a poem on shoes, find out the different shoe brands and categorize different kinds of shoes available.

Field trip to Devendra Nagar School
Students of the Academy conducted different activities for the students of Devendra Nagar School. These activities were planned, designed and implemented by both the sections of Grade 3. It is a collaborative effort. Activities included ice breakers-getting to know each other, spinning a story through story cubes(created by students), role plays, singing action rhymes.
Though we spent a very short period in that school, all the students were happy to have made new friends.
